In order for us locals to get around our city due to the heavy traffic on State Road 9 (controlled by INDOT and not the City) we have started a 10 year plan to make it easier to travel our local roads.
- The new left turn lane on southbound State Street going into the Post Office has eliminated backups of over 5 blocks.
- New roundabouts at McKenzie Road and Apple Street along with McKenzie and Franklin (at the Library) have eased the log jams and increased safety at these intersections.
- We have three more roundabouts scheduled for construction
- McKenzie Road and Meridian Road for 2011
- Franklin Street and New Road for 2012
- Apple Street and New Road for 2013.
- The dangerous intersection at Franklin Street and County Road 300 North will be reconstructed in 2011.
- East 5th Street from Apple to Date Street has been reconstructed with new pavement and sidewalks.
- We are expanding the intersection at Boyd Avenue and State Street at the hospital by adding a right turn lane onto State Street from Boyd to help reduce the stop light time on State Street.
- Franklin Street from Davis Road north to US 40 is under design for reconstruction.
- For safety sidewalks have been installed on Franklin Street from the high school to the library and to the new middle school.
- Repaving and stripping continue all over the city to help maintain the existing quality of our streets.
- The Pennsy Trail has been extended another 1.5 miles to the west for our citizens to enjoy walking, running and cycling.
